Full Send on Field Trip Friday!

I found my kryptonite, home & decor adventures with real people.

What the heck just happened?

Last week I hit a milestone and turned 39. I wasn’t expecting to feel this deep urge to purge, it’s something about being “almost” 40 that has me feeling like it’s time to grow up.

One voice in my head keeps whispering, “It’s time to grow up.” The other one’s shouting, “Stay curious. Stay a kid. Get off your computer and go live your life.”

So, I listened to both.

Most mornings, I spend about an hour tweaking my daily routine (classic Virgo behavior). I noticed Fridays were always wide open — so I asked myself, “What’s something fun that gets me out of the house, doing something I actually love?”

Three milliseconds later, it hit me:

💡 A home + decor themed field trip.

I laughed out loud at how silly and perfect it sounded. Within minutes, I was deep in planning mode, plotting the very first Field Trip Friday — a weekly experiment to get people offline, outside, and connected through design.

One of my strengths is creativity and organization, but my perfectionism often gets in the way. (And the fact that I’m only 1 person here) but I knew that if I treated this trip just like I used to treat first dates, the pressure would release and I would actually be able to enjoy myself.

To me, first dates are just about finding out “would I want to see this person again?”. And trust me, I just found out, I really wanna see these people again!

The night before the trip I was incredibly excited; I couldn’t sleep. And the morning of, I was super nervous, my palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, and I was starting to freak out when I realized how long putting together Field Trip Kits for each attendee was actually going to take, but I really wanted them to have something physical to walk away with, on top of the memories. Look how cute it turned out!

After a few big deep breathes, I locked in and said to myself, “I’ve done way harder shit than this, this is gonna be a piece of crumb cake.” and it really worked. I slowed down, I got in the zone and I actually remembered to take some b-roll for once.

We were vibing so hard we forgot to leave on the spot reviews (oops). But attendees promised to catch up. Here’s everywhere we went — and at the end, a link for the Google Map if you want to try our route!

The Route: Where We Went

We parked for free and kicked things off with some fuel and snacks. Here’s our exact route:

1. Naked Lounge Coffee House

1500 Q St, Sacramento, CA 95811

☕ The perfect pre-trip stop for great drinks and local art.

2. Poppy + Pot

1808 Q St, Sacramento, CA 95811

🌿 Met Kevin, Da’Reen, and their little ones —they’re having a huge grand opening this Sunday so stop by. They specialize in florals and even have pottery classes.

3. Scout Living

1215 19th St, Sacramento, CA 95811

🪑 Mid-Century magic and statement lighting galore. My #1 all time favorite destination for home and decor.

4. Mike & Gregg’s Antiques

5530 H St, Sacramento, CA 95819

🏺 Twenty years strong — filled with antiques, art, and history from around the world.

5. 57th Street Antique Mall

875 57th St, Sacramento, CA 95819

🖼 Apparently they expanded and I had no idea, def work a long walk through!

6. The Ruralist

3300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816

Every corner feels like a curated museum of cozy. Make it your first stop when visiting Antique Row.

And in true Sacramento fashion, at the end of the trip I bumped into a friend who was going to work at Moonshine & Co, which is described on their insta as “Not your average space of leisure, the energy is too good to ignore.” and I couldn’t agree more. Add this spot to your next walkabout or me-day, I can’t wait to go back.A special shout out to Chelsea for inviting me in! I think we need to take a special field trip there immediately.

Scenes from the Day

Meet the First Field Trippers

Whitney, Charity, Chelsi, and Rico — because someone no-call, no-showed (LOL).

This trip wouldn’t have been what it was without this group of women — and my fiancé, who heroically stepped in at the last minute. From the first stop, it felt like we’d known each other for years. We bonded over shared mindsets, creative chaos, and the kind of conversations that only happen when people show up as their full selves.

Honestly, the car rides might’ve been my favorite part — laughter, real talk, and that spark you feel when you know you’re in good company. I can tell this is a deep group of women, and I truly believe everything happens for a reason.

What happens now?

Planning the next one, duh! I had too much fun and I need more! Let’s hope the weather is kind to us.

I’ve never felt more in my element. I’m addicted — to the conversations, the creativity, and the crumb cake level of calm that comes from doing something that’s 100% me.

See you out there,

Nicole
